Workshop 2004 of the degree course in Industrial Design, in Treviso, 9th -17th September
Important innovations characterized the 2004 edition of workshops that the degree course in Industrial Design of Treviso proposed also this year: the final prize-giving to the best projects and the opening to the public of designers' lectures.
The 10 workshop, which took place in Treviso from the 9th to the 17th September, could rely on the prestigious collaboration of enterprises of the territory - Cottoveneto, Electrolux Zanussi, Fabbian, Favero Health Projects, Lotto Sport Italia, Tubes Radiatori, Valcucine - and on the didactic and professional contribution of famous designers - Paolo Favaretto, Kazuyo Komoda, MM Design, Simon Moore, Nucleo Design, Gabriele Pezzini, Naoko Shintani, Benno Simma, Studio Random, Marcello Ziliani.
About 150 youth, in this way, had the opportunity of working hard together with professionals of national and international provenance, contextualized in an active enterprise reality.
The title given to this initiative, "Design and product innovation: glances at and from the world", wants to underline the purpose of experimenting with various approaches to design, without forgetting the rooting in the productive fabric of Veneto.
Teachers-designers could presented their experiences, with origins and methodologies absolutely different, in a series of short lectures opened not only to students, but also to citizens, who are more and more involved in themes linked to design.
At the end of the week, there was the prize-giving public ceremony of the 3 best projects, at the presence of Federico Tessari, president of the Chamber of Commerce, Marino Folin, rector of the IUAV, and Medardo Chiapponi, director of the degree course in Industrial Design.
The jury (composed also by Carlo Gaino and Angelo Micheli, both professors at the faculty of Design and Arts, and Eugenio Perazza, owner of the enterprise Magis) awarded a prize to the most conceptual ideas, despite there were formal and planning solutions of very high level.
The 1st prize was given to the hospital kit planned by Vincenzo Sacchet, Lisa Sartor e Gianni Zanin, in the workshop supported by the enterprise Favero Health Projects and guided by Gabriele Pezzini. The project is a delicate and absolutely ethic thought addressed to sufferings, a small but respectful act, so that the patient, in a bed at the hospital, will have not to worry about his or her personal kit.
The shoe P.G. Shoe of Luca Casarotto and Riccardo Carli for the workshop Lotto, supported by Nucleo Design, obtained the 2nd prize thanks to the idea of a multileveled coloration, which appears in different zones according to wear and tear, giving shoes an autonomous life. The shoe, in this way, loses its definition as an instrument for playing and becomes an item rich of history and full of meanings, a token of individual characteristics, efforts and results: it turns personalized and part of the day-to-day becoming.
Anna Dalla Via and Emanuele Teobaldo, who were ranked 3rd , in the workshop Cottoveneto with Simon Moore, Morphosis, thought to a covering module with infinite combinations, a module that from the two-dimensional plan changes in a three- dimensional item. The reference is definitely to architecture (the current Biennale of Architecture is precisely entitled "Metamorph") and reveals the research for the continuity of surfaces that typifies the most up-to-date trend, which is a symbol of the digital era and of the modelling through computers.
The enthusiastic participation of students to workshops and the global success of this initiative confirm the more and more growing orientation towards this creative subject, a preference that is proved also by the high number of registrations for the academic year 2004/2005: about 600 admission requests for 120 available posts.
This year, 120 Italian students, in addition to 10 foreign students, entered the degree course in Industrial Design. Youths, after the three years degree course, have the possibility of continuing their studies becoming part of the 50 students enrolled in the two-year-long specialisation degree course in Industrial Design of the Product, or of the 50 people enrolled in the two-year-long specialisation degree course in Visual and Multimedia Communication in Venice.
The workshops experience that, in addition to conferences, meeting and internships, enriches the normal didactic activity, will express itself in an important exhibition that will be initially mounted in Milan, on the occasion of the Salone del Mobile (Salon of Furniture) 2005.
