The credit system in the Treviso area is characterized by the clear predominance of small banks: of the 11 local banks, which cover 71.6% of branches, 4 have branches in other Veneto provinces, and 7 are based only in the province of Treviso. There are 554 branches in the province, i.e. one every 1,432 inhabitants, and they are widespread on the territory: there is at least one branch in every municipality, and between 2 and 4 branches in 56,8% of municipalities.
Bank deposits account for 13,131 billion Lire, corresponding to around 16 million Lire per inhabitant. Traditionally, the inhabitants of Treviso and its province are savers: consumer families rank first as far as bank deposits are concerned, whose sums make up 58,8% (7,722 billion Lire) of total bank investment.
The flurry of Treviso economy implies a widespread use of credit facilities. The "Marca" is the first Veneto province as far as the total number of jobs is concerned (amounting to no less than 33,963 billion Lire), and 44,7% of financing schemes is aimed at private companies (15,191 billion Lire). In view of the forthcoming introduction of the Euro, the data in the table are shown in both currencies, Lire and Euro.
