The third edition of the International Kids’ Carnival of the Biennale di Venezia will take place from 11th to 21st February 2012 at the Giardini, Venice. The program, which is now in an advanced phase of development, was approved at today’s meeting of the Board of Directors of the Biennale, chaired by Paolo Baratta. Many countries have already confirmed their participation in the 3rd Kids’ Carnival of the Biennale, titled Favole e Pensieri/Tales and Thoughts: they include Australia, Austria, Germany, Netherlands, Romania and the UK.
Other countries (Korea, Israel, Serbia, the United States, Denmark, Spain and Poland) have manifested their interest in taking part in the Kids’ Carnival, and the relative agreements are currently being drafted, confirming the growing international attention towards this initiative by the Educational sector of the Biennale di Venezia.
The 2nd Kids’ Carnival 2011 – which counted 24,500 visitors over its 11-day duration – featured the participation of institutions from four countries (Austria, Great Britain, Netherlands, Poland). The 2012 edition of the International Kids’ Carnival of the Biennale di Venezia will be focused to a greater degree on workshops and initiatives that foster “creative activity”, intended for schools of every grade and level and a public of children, young people, families and adults, which will animate the Central Pavilion and the National Pavilions of the participating countries. The workshops will be held under the guidance of the educational staff of the Biennale, assisted by volunteers from the art Schools. The various sections of the Central Pavilion at the Giardini will include: 1) The “international” section with exhibitions on the theme by the participating Countries. 2) The “young creative talents” section with the direct participation of young people and Schools, in which the students will be encouraged to experiment and to present their ideas with direct demonstrations. 3) The “live performances” section organized by the Dance, Music and Theatre sectors of the Biennale, which will animate the areas with activities that will involve the public. The space of the ASAC-Biennale Library will be open to the public with its more than 130,000 books. • Great attendance at the Masterclass in Visual Arts and Design In consideration of the many applications for the 2nd Masterclass in Visual Arts and Design titled Signs of water: paper and its traditions, which was held in November and December 2011, the Board of Directors has approved the proposal to hold a second session of the same Masterclass, which will take place from January 23 to February 3, 2012 with 18 new participants. The Masterclasses in Visual Arts and Design of the Biennale di Venezia, which take place in the Laboratory at Ca’ Giustinian, are intended for university students, graduates, teaching professionals, graduates of Art schools, craftsmen, professionals and entrepreneurs from the province of Venice and the Veneto region.
Participation in the Masterclass is free of charge. The activities are made possible by the generous support of the Chamber of Commerce of Venice.
