The GDP of Veneto region will increase by 1.2% in 2010 after a 5% drop in 2009. Federico Tessari, president of Unioncamere Veneto, presented the report on Veneto economy in 2009 by Unioncamere Veneto at Belluno Chamber of Commerce. The report is now in its 44th edition.
The president underlined that: «The Veneto region will be able to start recovering during the next months – unless it undergoes unexpected financial speculation – because it still registers positive trends, performing better than the average of other Italian regions and other countries as well. I’m referring to exports, since the Veneto region earned a trade surplus of 8.6 billion euros and GDP almost touches 144 billion euros. Both indicators confirm that our economy is steady and strong. More observations derive from the research “Oltre il Pil”1 – promoted by Unioncamere Veneto and Venice Chamber of Commerce – which analyses trends with a macroeconomic approach thanks to eight indicators and demonstrates that territorial cooperation helps generate further growth: it can be observed that the Veneto region is likely to be one of the first to find the most stable way out to get out of the crisis. Our region deserves to compete on international markets, with the BRIC countries as well as Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean area. However, this recovery might be a “cold” one if it won’t be accompanied by a significant, durable recovery for employment».
