Two important events in Venice: Beyond Broadband and the ETNO Forum
24-25 October 2008

Two important events will be held in Venice on 24 and 25 October 2008: Beyond Broadband and the ETNO Forum.

ETNO Forum - Fondazione Cini, Venice - 24 October 2008

This year's General Assembly coincides with the European Parliament and Council legislative debate on the New EU Regulatory Framework for Electronic Communications.

What is the best approach to encourage risky investment in next generation access networks? Is functional separation needed to promote infrastructure-based competition and encourage investment by all operators? How to ensure that the transitory character of the EU Regulatory Framework is reinforced and that ex-ante regulation is gradually replaced by EU general competition law?

All these questions and many others will be discussed at the ETNO Forum.

Beyond Broadband - Fondazione Cini, Venice - 25 October 2008

The chief executives of the leading ICT companies of Europe, America, Asia and the Middle East will gather for the first ETNO global CEO summit in Venice on 25 October to discuss future market scenarios and identify global policy challenges for the telecoms industry.

This event is jointly organized by Telecom Italia and ETNO in the context of the Association’s 33rd General Assembly. The Summit will be opened by Telecom Italia Chairman Gabriele Galateri di Genola, CEO Franco Bernabé and Viviane Reding, EU Commissioner for Information Society and Media.

“The CEO Summit is an unprecedented occasion to reinforce the global role of the ICT and telecoms industry in boosting economic growth and productivity. The CEO Summit will aim to identify global policies to spur investment and boost innovation”, said Luigi Gambardella, Telecom Italia Vice-President for Relations with International Institutions and Chairman of 2008 ETNO General Assembly.

“As Europe enters a crucial phase of the policy debate on the review of the telecommunications rules and faces major challenges to catch up with the roll out of next generation access networks, the ETNO CEO Summit will be a key opportunity to open up the debate to all players, beyond the traditional telecoms sector, to identify global responses”, says Michael Bartholomew, ETNO Director.

The CEO Summit will be held at the Fondazione Cini on San Giorgio Island. The CEO Summit can be attended upon invitation only. For journalists, please see the press section.
