Treviso airport aims at improving its activities and reaching the 2nd category
17.2% increase over the period January-May 2008, for a total amount of 648,438 passengers

The Italian Air Force handed a 115-hectare area over to AER TRE, including the runway and its lighting system, on 10th June. This operation, necessary in order to carry out the Airport Development Plan, constitutes a key stage for the airport to develop further, in support of a steady growth demonstrated over the years.
As for traffic, the airport closed 2007 with 1,548,219 passengers, which had increased by 15.5% compared to 2006, and 19,320 flights (+12.7%). These results, achieved also thanks to the opening of the new air terminal in February 2007, overtake the national average (10%).

The Treviso Canova airport represents the 18% of total traffic within the airport system VCE Venice-TSF Treviso. The coordinated management of the two airports, the most recent act of which is represented by SAVE’s acquisition of 80% of AER TRE in August 2007, allowed for the development of respective potentialities, supplying effective responses to users’ requirements within the territory in a synergistic manner.

Scheduled flights by full service carriers are mainly concentrated in Venice airport, while low cost connections account for 25% of total activities. On the other hand, Treviso airport chiefly works with low cost flights (85% of total traffic), being a reference point for Ryanair in the North-East of Italy: during 2007, the new air routes to Bremen, Malta, Stockholm and Düsseldorf were introduced.

In particular, Treviso airport kept growing during the period between January and May 2008, and registered  648,438 passengers (+17.2% compared to the same period in 2007).

Flights reached the number of 8,008, experiencing an increase of 11.1%.
During the first 5 months of 2008, Ryanair saw its passengers increasing by 10.1%.
Scheduled carriers operating in this airport have tripled from 2 to 6 over the last three years: in 2006, there were Transavia and Ryanair, while nowadays there are Transavia, Ryanair, Blue Air, Wizzair, Belle Air and Sky Europe, connecting Canova airport with 18 destinations (twice those of 2007).
The innovations of the current year have been brought about by:

Wizzair: 3 new weekly flights to Budapest, in addition to those already operating to Bucharest;
Alpitour: this tour operator is working for the first time in Treviso airport, after 5 years in Venice, with its Mediterranean destinations (Balearic Islands, Tunisia and Greece) and Sharm el-Sheikh;
Eden Viaggi: flights to Sharm el-Sheikh.

For future development, AER TRE plans a strengthening of already operating carriers and an increase in their number, plus the expansion of the network of destinations, both scheduled and charter ones.

As for cargo services, there is the aim to reinforce the activities of DHL express courier.
To this purpose, it will be necessary to obtain the promotion to the 2nd category according to ILS (Instrumental Landing System), which is directly connected with the forty-year concession by ENAC.
This is why the handing over to AER TRE of airport areas complete with lighting system by the Italian Air Force constitutes a fundamental stage preparatory to the issue of the forty-year concession in favour of the company administering the airport.

When this key aim is reached, it will be possible to start the upgrade of the runway and renovation of lights necessary in order to deserve the 2nd category promotion, whose total estimated cost is nearly € 10 million, for a duration of 2 years’ work.
