The analysis on 2007 economic trend gives evidence of Treviso territory’s ability to react, even in times of uncertainty like the current period is.

2007 was a fairly positive year despite slowdowns in a few sectors.

Positive results above all in the market labour in which, although quite stable, the employment rate keeps being higher than both regional and national average.

Anyway, also the response of economy on the whole was favourable.

Indeed, the province of Treviso keeps growing. In spite of the climate of concern in the last period, 2007 unequivocally highlighted that the heart of this province is still the manufacturing sector, even if it is suffering from a growing expansion of service industries.

The manufacturing industry continues to grow as for production (+2%), turnover (+2.1%) and employment.
In particular, the industrial division registers the highest increase in the number of employees, which grew by 3,000 units compared to 2006.

In 2007, industrial companies were able to meet foreign demand, and their exports reached the amount of € 10 billion.

In particular, while searching for new markets, the province of Treviso – and, more generally, Veneto region – are wisely orientated towards Asia, the Middle East and, above all, emerging countries of Eastern Europe.

The latter are geographically close, have high growth rates and their domestic demand fits the industrial specializations of the North-East of Italy and, in particular, Treviso.

Exports keep growing thanks to research on the product, processes and markets that has been long studied.

Maybe in objectively more difficult situations, entrepreneurs and workers continued to face the constraints imposed by globalization and find solutions in response to new market requirements, by means of enhancing their products’ added value, internationalizing, improving their own skills, introducing new services, starting growth agendas (also) through processes of unification and aggregation.

It is important to repeat that the process of repositioning hasn’t been completed, and doesn’t concern all enterprises and sectors yet. Moreover, there are some segments, within labour market, that are particularly exposed to changes in the economic situation, such as, for example, some components of female and immigrant employment.

However, these difficulties don’t prevent us from looking to the future with optimism and confidence. Further intervention and suitable policies will be needed in order to strengthen the recovery process, but this will be possible inasmuch as we will be able to lay aside that “defeatist” attitude and work on new ideas and new projects.
