The prestigious Granfondo1 di Valdobbiadene is committed, together with an enterprise of Tarzo, at the construction of a photovoltaic plant in Senegal.
In the meantime, there is great expectation for the race that will take place on 28th September.

The energy of Prosecco Cycling Classic to facilitate the development of one of the poorest areas in Africa. The Granfondo di Valdobbiadene is not only a bicycle race, but also an extraordinary demonstration of solidarity, an occasion to help the poor.

For this reason, the Prosecco Cycling Classic is committed, together with a specialized company of Tarzo (province of Treviso), in the construction of a photovoltaic plant in a suburb of Dakar, the capital city of Senegal.
“We are building it in a hospital treating infectious diseases – Remo Carpenè, proprietor of Soleos, explains, from Dakar –. This plant is intended to function whenever the national electrical power system suffers a blackout, which often happens. Later on, local personnel will be trained to use it. It is an important undertaking, oriented towards a globalization of alternative energies, in particular solar power”.

The plant will be offered for free to Senegalese government, also thanks to Prosecco Cycling Classic’s contribution. Massimo Stefani, chief organizer of Prosecco Cycling Classic, commented that: “Solidarity and respect for the environment are priorities that have gone hand in hand with our Granfondo since its birth.

We are keen to care about our fellow men, about the needy. The construction of a new photovoltaic plant in Senegal was really a great idea: we’re pleased to collaborate with a firm that decided to enter the cycling world and became a partner of Prosecco Cycling Classic”.

The Prosecco Cycling Classic is a Granfondo with no frontiers, which pays regard to Africa, and not only: four months before the event takes place (on 28th September), athletes from 10 European and non-European countries have already registered for it.

But which is the main goal of this race? “The aim is to have a high number of foreign participants, and to offer an event combining sport and entertainment, so as to enhance the territory and the Prosecco”.

The Prosecco Cycling Classic plans two routes: the first one, 128 km long with 2,108 metres of elevation gain and nine ascents – among which the one of Zuel di Là stands out, with its 205 metres ascent in 6 kilometres of length – ; the second one is 67.850 km long, with only four short steep slopes. These two routes have different features and fit athletes with any kind of training, but, apart from starting in the same place – Marconi square in Montebelluna –, they have a common denominator: the charming hilly landscape within the province of Treviso which they go through. Together with Prosecco flavour, this is the reason that makes this land worth discovering, better still while pedalling.

1 Gran Fondo (or Granfondo) is the name given to cycling or MTB long-distance races. Various Gran Fondo are organized in different areas of Italy; the Prosecco Cycling Classic is the Gran Fondo taking place in Valdobbiadene, a town in the province of Treviso, in the north-east of Italy.
