Two new accreditations are planned in Piave DOC area: Raboso Piave DOC Superiore and Carmenère variety
New production regulations for Piave DOC wines

The new production regulations have two essential novelties: the introduction of the label “Superiore” for Raboso Piave DOC, and the accreditation of the variety “Carmènere”. These important modifications will be discussed by the responsible Ministry and become effective in the next two or three months (that is before the 2008 grape harvest), according to the timetable indicated by the commissioner Pelissetti.
The Raboso Piave DOC Superiore must contain an amount between 15 and 30% of grapes that have undergone drying process.

Pierclaudio De Martin, president of the Consorzio Tutela Vini del Piave1, explains that: “The acknowledgement of the label “Superiore” was born from the will of bestowing honours on Raboso Piave DOC, also because of some tenacious and affectionate producers who revaluated this wine variety. Thanks to this operation, Raboso became a kind of “symbol” for Piave DOC wines, able to interact with a broad public and to attract the attention of critics and consumers towards the whole Piave production. Now that the “Superiore” tool is available to everyone willing to comply with new rules, I’m sure that Raboso will get new great satisfactions”.

On the other hand, consumers will probably be able to taste Carmenère Piave DOC from 2009.
Antonio Bonotto, vice-president of the Consorzio, states: “It will be a particular, high quality wine, fresh-tasting and distinctively elegant. A wine with well defined, herby characters, which are not only inborn, but also connected with the frequent impossibility to obtain a complete ripening of this type of grapes in Piave area.

Certainly, this wine will not go unnoticed, especially if we will be able to convert its peculiarities in great resources”.
