The wood and metalworking sectors of Confartigianato Marca Trevigiana launched a remarkable initiative to supply proper equipment to the vocational training centre of Soddo Hosanna, in Ethiopia.

This is part of a project that Confartigianato started in 2000 and became heritage of the association system. It was carried out also thanks to the contribution of Confartigianato Marca Trevigiana, which now includes 5 pavilions and an indoor area of over 6 thousand square meters.

The structure relies on Capuchin Missionaries, and it is aimed at training young Ethiopians in some art-and-craft activities such as woodworking, metal carpentry and car repair.

“The vocational training centre is a reality that must be supported – explains Angelo Fantin, provincial and national president of the wood sector – , and that is why, as executive committee, we began working to find 20 machines for the school workshops: this equipment is in working order, since it was tweaked by our colleagues of the metalworking sector to offer tools that are useful to develop new professionalisms.

We are convinced that providing an art-and-craft know-how to the youth can favour a well-balanced development in this African country, and concretely help a population that suffers from war, hunger and illnesses”.

The outfit will depart from Treviso to Africa on 10th April: it will be then embarked in Ancona port with destination Ethiopia, accompanied by the wish that it could be preparatory for the training of skilled technicians and operators.
