Treviso’s entrepreneurs are not exclusively interested in China.
The U.S.A.
- with their 350 million of generally high spending consumers - are another
interesting market for products made in Veneto and Treviso in particular.
The Chamber of Commerce has organized the conference “How to enter the U.S. market; food product distribution and labelling” in
cooperation with the Foreign Centre of the Veneto Chambers of Commerce. This
follows up on the February conference always at the Treviso Chamber of Commerce,
which dealt in particular with regulations concerning wine and alcoholic beverage
exports after the American bioterrorism regulations came into force.
A delegation from the state of Illinois led by Ross Harano, director of the
Foreign Trade Department and by Matthew J.Botos, director of the Illinois Centre
for Food Safety and Technology were hosted by the Conference.
Mario Iaccarino,
an expert from the National Institute for Foreign Trade (ICE) spoke about the
main “issues” connected with regulations covering foodstuff importing and distribution
into the USA, and explained the juridical features of the different distribution
channels and agents. " Our high quality food products,” explained Federico
Tessari, president of the Treviso Chamber of Commerce, “enhance Treviso entrepreneurs’
internationalization prospects. Last year we recorded a positive trade balance
to the USA of over 324 million euro, but the whole Veneto can increase its
share of food exports in this strategic market”.
At the conference information was also provided concerning insurance to cover
damage from faulty products as well as pre-emptive registration with the FDA
(Food and Drug Administration) of businesses in the sector. The state of Illinois,
where the vast Chicago area is located, is the logistic base of choice for
Veneto’s food products to reach the U.S. market. In the afternoon, after presentations
by Giancarlo Moretti Polegato, Managing Director of La Gioiosa spa, and Walter
Brunello director of Treviso Glocal, the representatives of participating businesses
were able to meet the speakers to make contact and ask for further information.
